Yesterday, all of the first-year high school classes divided into groups and went out to do some field work.
My group walked the streets on a guided tour from JR Wakayama station all the way to Nankai Wakayamashi station. We stopped along the way in several places, including two shopping arcades , Daishin Park, Honmachi Park, the Civic Library and more.
It was very hot outside, and the parks had many biting insects, and that was too bad. However, the tour was wonderful! I learned about so many things in the city. I have only been in Wakayama for a few months now, so I was able to discover so many unique shops, and see the special places in the city. I had been through many of those same areas on my bicycle or in a car, but the experience is very different when you walk through. I feel more closely connected to Wakayama now…
… And also to my students! One of the most fun things I did that day with them was to ride on a very unstable double bicycle around Honmachi park as they screamed in a mix of delight and terror. It was a wonderful day!
