Hello everyone,
It is Saturday! you have had a “mini-week” because of the holidays. Now you have two more days to get ready for your mid-term tests. Do your best!
In my last post, I talked about a phonetic hint to make it clear what letter you are talking about. Actually, this is something we use in Canada too! When I was younger I worked for Canada Customs, and I was often talking to pilots of airplanes. In Canada, airplanes have a “tail number” to identify themselves.
Someimtes it is difficult to hear five letters in a row. So, when I was talking to pilots on the phone, they used something called the “NATO Phonetic Alphabet” to tell me their plan tail numbers. For example, for the airplane in the picture above they would say…
Good afternoon, this is CHARLIE, GOLF, JULIETT, YANKEE, ALPHA.”
Those words represent C-GJYA, the plane tail number. It made it easy and clear to catch the letters. Anything that makes communication easier over the phone is really important.
So, if you want to make a secret code with your friends, you can use this NATO Alphabet and (almost) no one will know your message! Just don’t say it in front of me, because I still remember it!
Good luck on your tests!
