Hello everyone,
I have terrible news…
When you go to McDonald’s, you can only get a small size order of french fries! What a disaster. If you read the bottom text, you can see that there is a shortage of potatoes because of the weather in Canada. Did you it on TV?
This area around Vancouver got 540mm of rain just in November. All that water came down the mountains and flooded the farms and houses of the people living there. This is the place where Shin-ai students went in the summer of 2019 for their international experience.
Also, the roads and train that go to Vancouver from the rest of Canada were all damaged. The train line is now repaired, but some roads will not be fixed until summer. After all, it is winter now, and it is impossible to fix them in the snow.
That damage means goods leaving Canada cannot get to Vancouver, and that includes our McDonald’s potatoes! What caused all this damage? It is called an “atmospheric river”. It is a lot of water carried over the ocean in the air. When it meets the land, the water is released all at once.
Hopefully life can get back to normal for those people, and also for us. Next time, I will share another story from the storm. Stay tuned!
